Destination Innovation:  2019 Summer Institute

Anyone wishing to attend daytime events and concert receptions must register, and must be a member of the natonal American Harp Society, Inc.  The registration fee includes admittance to workshops, daytime and evening concerts, and receptions.  An Institute badge will admit all registrants to each event and must be worn at all times.  All fees are non-refundable.

Non-registered guests wishing to attend evening events June 19-21, 2019 may purchase tickets at the door for $25.00, or tickets may be purchased during this online registration process by a registered member.

Members registered at the above rates may also register non-harpist family members for the following fees.  (A family member is defined as a parent, guardian, or other immediate family member of a student AHS member, or a spouse, life partner, or child of an adult AHS member.)

NO LONGER AVAILABLE - HOUSING IS CLOSED There is also a no-charge "Housing Only" registration for spouses or family members who will be staying with a registrant in campus housing, but does not plan to attend the Institute activities.  This registration is required by UNCSA for anyone staying in the on campus apartments but not registered for the Institute.

After selecting all registrations, you will see "Assign Ticket" buttons, in order to identify each person who is being registered.  For any Non-harpist Family Member or "Housing-Only" registration purchased, when making assignments please SELECT "NON-MEMBER" (rather than "This is my ticket") to open a form and enter the name and details for that family member. Adult and Student registrations MUST be assigned to an AHS member, or they will be invalidated.

When each ticket is assigned, you may also reserve on campus housing for that individual and purchase other miscellaneous options.



Three masterclasses are offered with Maria Luisa Rayan (intermediate to advanced solo pedal harp repertoire, such as works by Faure, Grandjany, Hindemith and Salzedo); Nikolas Cadoret (Celtic/lever harp music of all genres, including Celtic jigs, airs, reels and classical lever harp music), Marjuerite Lynn Williams (cadenzas and excerpts from orchestra, opera and ballets, such as Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Ravel's Tzigane and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker or Swan Lake), and Elisabeth Remy Johnson (a concerto or orchestral excerpts, such as Debussy's Danses Sacree et Profane, Ravel's Introduction et Allegro, and Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra).  Applications must be received no later than April 15, 2019.  Visit the application form here for more information and to submit your recording.



Special rates for AHS National Conference guests are available at four hotels: Fairfield Inn & Suites Winston-Salem Downtown, Hawthorne Inn & Conference Center, Courtyard Marriott University Parkway, or Courtyard Marriott Hanes Mall (contact information is available at   Guests must make hotel reservations directly with the Hotel and mention the “Harp Society Group”.  Hotels are not within walking distance of the campus.

APARTMENT HOUSING RESERVATIONS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE, CAMPUS HOUSING IS CLOSED.  (You will still see it listed, but DO NOT SELECT HOUSING.  If you attempt to book campus housing on May 12 or later, it will be cancelled and refunded.)  Adjacent to the campus, and a short walk to the music facilities, are the Unversity's Center Stage Apartments.  Important note:  University rules restrict these apartments to ADULTS ONLY (over age 17) or minors under 18 ONLY with a parent or legal guardian (not other relatives, teachers, friends, etc.).   Parents/guardians staying with a minor in the Apartments must also select either the "Non-harpist Family Member Institute Registration" or the "HOUSING ONLY" registration to provide personal information.  You will have the opportunity to select the number of nights, dates, and with whom to share a bedroom or apartment as you register each individual.   

The Center Stage Apartments offer:

  • Two bedroom suites in each apartment.  Each bedroom includes:
    • Standard double bed for one or two people
    • Private bath
    • Desk
    • Dresser
    • Walk in closet
  • Each apartment has major appliances (i.e. microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, etc)
  • Washer and dryer in each apartment
  • Ethernet connection
  • Security alarm system
  • Apartments are air-conditioned and carpeted

Apartments are $50 per PERSON per night (whether one or two people per bedroom), plus one-time $24 linen fee per bed.  (You may also provide your own bedding if you prefer.)  Practicing is allowed within reasonable hours (note: no elevators).  There are no traditional dormitories available on campus to Institute attendees.

Housing reservations are available as part of this registration process, or may be added at a later date if preferred.

On-campus housing must be reserved no later than June 1, 2018, no exceptions. 



The Hanes Student Commons, next door to Gray Building, offers three on campus food options including the Dining Hall, the “Pickle Jar” Grill and the P.O.D. Market. The newly renovated Dining Hall in Hanes Student Commons features a full all-you-care-to-eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a Mongolian grill, wood-fire pizza oven, deli bar, salad bar, and more.  The Library Cafe serves quick snacks, drinks and coffee from Twin City Hive.  All locations offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menu items.

All meals are ala carte, and dining hall prices as of this posting are:

  • Breakfast: $7.10
  • Lunch: $8.70
  • Dinner: $9.80

You may return to your registration form through the Member Portal ("Events", "My Events Registrations") to add on campus housing and luncheon tickets, purchase non-registered guest concert tickets, etc., should you wish to make those decisions at a later time.
